How Scissors Work by Kaitlyn HR Class

Kaitlyn took her skills one step further and went home to practise what she had learnt.  Well done Kaitlyn.

Scissors are hand functional tools which are made out of metal with rubber or plastic at the top to cover the two holes where you put your fingers into.

They cut different things like paper, material and other things. There are different types of scissors like material scissors and just normal scissors.

To work scissors you have to put your fingers into the two holes and move your fingers in and out to open and close the blade which cuts the thing you want to cut.

In conclusion scissors are an easy hand functional tool to use which can cut different things and are made of metal and rubber or plastic.

How Do Sea Turtles Grow Into Adults?

Sea turtles are some of the earth's most ancient creatures. The seven species you can find today have been around since the Jurassic times. The Sea Turtle's shell is designed for swimming in the water. Unlike other turtles, Sea Turtles cannot hide in their shell, due to having flippers not feet. Now we are going to explain how they grow into an adult.

Eggs
Female sea turtles dig a hole to lay their eggs in. The females lay about 200-500 eggs. They lay the eggs and then cover the hole with sand. It takes approximately 6 weeks for the eggs to hatch. About 20% of the eggs don’t hatch. The eggs are about the same size of a ping pong ball.

Babies
When the  baby Sea Turtles hatch they have to try run to the ocean. 50% of the turtles don’t survive when they run across the beach. They have to get past their predators which are crabs, plastic bags and humans.  When they get in the sea, even more dangers await them.

Growing Up
When the Sea Turtles start growing they unlock more dangers like oil spills and all sorts of crises. But their shell also grows which gives them more protection. They also grow from the size of a dinner plate to the size of a dinner table. They then try to find a nice clump of seaweed to live in. Sadly only about 10 survive this stage and move onto breeding.

Breeding
Females are approximately 20 years old when they breed. The females swim to the shore and once they have dug a hole, they lay their eggs in it. Once they have laid their children, the females will cover hole with dirt. After the six weeks have passed, The little Sea Turtles should have hatched and they crawl out of their hole. They then  make a run for the sea.

In conclusion, Sea Turtles have a tough life because of low survival rates and humans interfering by littering.

                                                             Introduction
When sea turtles grow up to be adults they lay eggs. They lay 1,000 eggs in a nest, and average between two to eight nests a season. Sea turtles can be found in all oceans apart from polar region. There are seven species of sea turtles that are alive right now.The seven species are the green, loggerhead, Kemp's ridley, olive ridley ,hawksbill, flatback, and leatherback.

How Long it Takes for the Eggs to Hatch?
Sea turtles eggs hatch at south quicker about 70 days, and in the north a bit slower-around 90-120 days. Once the eggs hatch only around 10% of them survive. Loggerheads and green eggs hatch in about 45-55 days. Leatherback eggs take a bit longer, reaching upwards of 70-80 days, sometimes longer. A natural or in situ nest will have a hatching success rate of 80-100%, while a relocated nest will have a hatching success rate of 60-70%.

Jurassic

Turtles were originated in the Jurassic times. They are amazing survivors because they survived in with dinosaurs. Dinosaurs are some of the most dangerous animals ever  and tiny little turtles survived them. The Jurassic turtles are old species and the species are called Astrochelys, Bashuchelys, Condorchelys, Eileanchelys Kayentachelys. So you should now know that sea-turtles and turtles are pretty epic if you ask me.
How Long do Turtles Survive?

Sea turtles can live a long time and some of them can live more than 150 years, depending on the species. Scientists are not sure how long sea turtles live, but they may outlive humans. Females of some species may reach 35 or more years of age before reproducing.

How Sea Turtles Turn to Adults
How Sea Turtles Turn into Adults Sea Turtles  Image result for sea turtle

Today we will be telling you how small eggs that look like ping pong balls grow into adult turtles.

Adult turtles are sea turtles but are  adults. The mummy turtle lays 1,000 eggs and 20% don't hatch and 80% do.There enemies  are sharks and dolphins.  When they are babies they can get eaten by almost anything.

800 hatch and walk over to the sea but on the way to  the water there are crabs and big birds like seagulls that try to catch the baby turtles when they are trying to work over to the sea. So it means that only 400 make it to the water alive.but some get eaten by seagulls and sharks.

After they  are in the  sea they swim and to survive they have to avoid all of their main predators like sharks, dolphins and seabirds. The baby sea turtles go up to the surface of the sea to get a breath of fresh air to survive in the water. The turtles feed on little insects that grow in the water like snails and dead little fish.

When they are all grown up by the end of the process there are only a couple of turtles that actually survived the hole thing of growing up. And after the processes is done that go back to the beach and lay their eggs in the sand on the beach. Then the  process starts all over again.
